Teaching Artist Alexander Star and the students at Silver Lakes Middle School wrote and recorded “SANTA,” a Christmas parody of Desiigner’s “Panda.” Check it out!

The 4th and 5th graders at Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ Silver Bluff Elementary wrote and produced an original holiday song with the help of Teaching Artists Jessica and Lyndon.

Three-time NBA champion James Jones shows his support for The Motivational Edge and our Teaching Artists! Here, he joins James Jones Legacy Foundation volunteer Earl Harris to discuss the importance of creativity and self-expression for local youth!

This is a connection story between the arts, philanthropy, and adoption. Monica & Deryl were introduced to our organization through a mutual friend. They became a monetary sponsor of a group foster home, where they spent time cooking meals with the girls and ultimately adopting 14-year-old Sarah with the assistance and support of Our Kids of Miami-Dade/Monroe, Inc.

In an effort to support violence prevention initiatives, Teaching Artists and students from The Motivational Edge produced “Stop the Violence,” a music video urging peers to put the guns down and be productive! The video was filmed in Miami locations with high crime rates and frequent shootings, including Brownsville, Allapattah, and Liberty City.

ME alum Alex (AKA “Mr. Hot Wheelz”) was featured on the Telemundo series Niños Héroes

The Florida Youth Leadership Academy (FYLA) enables selected youth involved with the dependency system to develop skills necessary to maintain healthy relationships, employment, and education. Our Teaching Artists worked with many of these youth through our Lyrical Expression and Urban Arts programs.

“For My Mama” was written and recorded by Maria, a young teen in a South Florida juvenile detention center. Our Teaching Artists worked with Maria to help her express her feelings, which has helped her transform from reserved and resentful to outgoing, optimistic, and creative!
